# CommunityMentions vs Soar for brands choosing a flat plan or an agency retainer

By [Ryan Doyle](https://rpdoyle.com), founder of CommunityMentions. Updated November 6, 2026.

For a brand choosing how to buy Reddit visibility, budget decides this one. Soar quotes its Reddit service by proposal, lists $950 a month for AI Visibility, and its blog describes retainers at $5,000 to $15,000. CommunityMentions, which is ours, is $1,000 a month on five channels, month-to-month. Read November 6, 2026.

## CommunityMentions vs Soar, line by line

Soar's column comes from soar.sh, read November 6, 2026. Soar's Reddit service is quoted by proposal, so the tiers in this table are the market tiers its blog describes, not a Soar price list.

| | CommunityMentions (ours) | Soar (read Nov 6, 2026) |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Published price | $1,000/mo after a $1 setup charge | Reddit service: none, Request a Proposal. Soar AI Visibility: $950 a month plus a $500 setup, no minimum term (home page) |
| Price range to expect | One plan | $5,000 to $15,000 a month, the market tiers its blog describes (not a Soar quote) |
| Term | Month-to-month | Reddit service set by proposal; its blog says it treats $5K engagements as 90-day pilots. AI Visibility: no minimum term |
| Volume | We aim for 5 to 10 comments a day across all five channels combined; median 49 verified placements a month, 9 on Reddit | Set by proposal; its blog describes 4 to 6 posts or comment threads a month for a $5K tier |
| Channels | Reddit, YouTube, Medium, LinkedIn, X | Reddit, Quora, Discord |
| Who writes | AI, in a voice you approve in Slack | Its team |

## What the $5K, $10K and $15K tiers buy in hours, per Soar's blog

Soar's blog puts a $5K retainer at 20 to 30 hours a month, which works out to about $167 to $250 an hour. All three tiers land in that band, so a bigger budget buys more hours and a larger senior share at about the same hourly price. The post describes the market as Soar reads it, and the hourly figures are our division. Your Soar proposal may differ.

| Tier a month | Team hours | Senior hours | Subreddits | Reporting | Per hour (our math) |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| $5,000 | 20 to 30 | 3 to 5 | 1 to 2 | Monthly report | $167 to $250 |
| $10,000 | 40 to 55 | 10 to 14 | 5 to 8 | Biweekly review, monthly summary | $182 to $250 |
| $15,000 | 60 to 80 | 18 to 24 | 8 to 15 plus 1 to 2 brand subreddits | Weekly dashboard, monthly review | $188 to $250 |
| CommunityMentions, $1,000 (ours) | Not sold by the hour | None | Set by your niche | Daily Slack report | Not applicable |

## Is the price gap worth it?

The gap pays for senior judgment, according to the blog's tier description. At $5,000 a month you'd spend five times our price, and the same blog post describes that tier as 4 to 6 posts or comment threads a month, led by junior staff, and as a 60 to 90 day pilot. So at the bottom of the range it describes you are buying a small test with a human hand on each thread. The case for Soar gets stronger at $10,000 and up, where, per the blog, a senior strategist reworks the subreddit list every 4 to 6 weeks.

Our $1,000 buys volume across five channels with no strategist. If you already know your subreddits and message, you may not need one. If you don't, a strategist is the thing we don't sell.

## Accounts and upvotes: where the two differ

Soar's agency page says every account is aged, hand-picked for subreddit history and warmed for weeks. Its Signals brand sells aged Reddit accounts and Reddit upvotes on a self-serve basis. CommunityMentions uses people with established accounts, and we sell neither accounts nor upvotes. Check both approaches against the rules of the subreddits you care about, because moderators remove what breaks them, whoever posted it. We count a removed comment as removed: it doesn't go toward your total.

## Where Soar wins

- Planning. Its pages describe an audit, a 15 to 30 subreddit map and monthly adjustments, and its blog ties higher tiers to senior strategist hours. We sell no strategy.
- Reporting on AI citations and ranked queries each month. We don't track AI answers for clients.
- Range: Quora, Discord, branded subreddits and reputation work.
- Reddit Ads on top of organic threads.
- A longer public record. It says it has been up since 2017, with 280+ campaigns, and we started in November 2025.

## Where CommunityMentions wins

- Price: $1,000 a month against retainers its blog describes as starting at $5,000.
- A published price for the Reddit service, with no call or proposal needed to learn it.
- No minimum term, and a $1 setup charge to start.
- Counted volume: a median of 49 verified placements a month across five channels, 9 on Reddit. Its blog describes 4 to 6 posts or comment threads for a $5K tier, and Soar's own scope comes by proposal, so the units differ.
- Proof every day, with a link to each comment that passed our check.
- A free sample of the comments, in about 2 minutes.

## How we compared

Every Soar fact comes from soar.sh, read November 6, 2026. Soar's pricing URL returned 404 that day. The $5K to $15K tiers come from its blog post, which reads as a market guide dated May 9, 2026, not a Soar price list. The $950 figure is on its home page. Its campaign and account claims are its own. We have not bought its service. If its pages say something different now, its pages win.

In the 30 days from October 7 to November 5, 2026, the median of 55 client brands got 49 verified placements across Reddit, YouTube, Medium, LinkedIn and X, 9 of them on Reddit. The 25th percentile was 2 and the 75th percentile 123. That count includes brands that started or paused partway through the window.
