The 30 subreddits AI answers cite most, and when their top posts went up
AI citations are the Reddit thread links ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini answers gave as sources in our tracking (Jan 9, 2026 to Oct 30, 2026). With about 100 top posts per subreddit, a gap of a few points between two days is noise; the three-hour block is the steadier reading.

What the hours mean
These are the hours when the posts that reached the top of each subreddit went up. Hours with many top posts are likely hours with many posts and readers overall, so a post then meets a bigger audience and more competition at once. The hours show when winning posts went up; they will not lift a weak post.
Read each subreddit's rules before posting: many limit self-promotion or links, and its moderators decide what stays up. For which communities to post in at all, start with the subreddit list or the subreddit finder.
How we count
On Nov 3, 2026 we read the top 100 posts of the past month, by Reddit's own ranking, in each of the 211 subreddits on our subreddit data pages through Reddit's official Data API. Of those, 2 returned no posts and are left out. We keep only each post's time, to the minute: no titles, authors or text. Pinned posts are dropped.
A 30-day window holds five of some weekdays and four of others, so each hour's count is divided by the number of times that weekday and hour occurred in the window before the shares are worked out. Posts from the last day or two had less time to climb into the month's top 100, so the newest days likely count for a little less. A subreddit with fewer than 30 top posts in the window gets no reading of its own. The data refreshes every week.

Is the best time different for each subreddit?
Yes. 5 of the 9 topic groups had their busiest three hours before noon ET and 4 at noon or later. The busiest three hours were 9 AM to noon ET in travel and events and noon to 3 PM ET in ecommerce and consumer brands. Pick a subreddit in the tool to see its own hours, read from its top posts of the month.
Will posting at the best time get my post to the top?
No hour guarantees it. These hours show when the posts that reached the top went up. Busy hours bring more readers and more competing posts at once, and we have not measured whether the hour changes a given post's odds. A post that breaks a subreddit's rules gets removed at any hour.
Does the posting hour change whether AI answers cite a thread?
We have no evidence that it does. What we track is which subreddits AI answers cite: 35,035 Reddit thread citations in 78,023 answers from ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini models. The table above puts those counts beside the posting hours of the 30 most-cited subreddits.
