How to read the result
AI citations are the times an AI answer linked a thread from that subreddit as a source. The median among subreddits cited 50 or more times is 92, so each row shows whether that subreddit sits above or below it.
Our verified comments are comments CommunityMentions posted for clients there and checked on the thread the day they went up. A high count means brand comments have a track record in that community; it is not a promise that yours will stay up, so read the rules first.
Matched on shows which of your words hit the subreddit's name, its topic or the titles of its most-cited threads. A match on the name or a thread title is stronger than a match on the topic alone.
Worked example: “AI writing tool for marketers”
The search matches 10 subreddits. The top two are r/WritingWithAI (89 AI citations, 150 of our verified comments) and r/AI_Agents (117 AI citations, 577 of our verified comments). Start with the one whose most-cited threads ask the question your product answers, read its rules, and answer the open threads there before you ever mention a brand.
How the finder works and what it leaves out
It splits your description into words and compares them with each subreddit's name, the topic group we filed it under (9 groups, such as SaaS and startups and ecommerce and consumer brands) and the titles of the threads AI answers cited most there. Name matches count most, then thread titles, then the topic. Among equally good matches, the subreddit with more AI citations and placements ranks first. No AI model is called, so the same words always give the same list.
It covers the 211 subreddits that AI answers cited 50 or more times or where we placed 50 or more verified comments, data as of October 5, 2026. Other subreddit finders search all of Reddit and rank by size or activity; this one is narrower and ranks by what AI engines cite. For the full ranking, see subreddit statistics for brands and the guide to Reddit for AI search.
Frequently asked questions
How do I find the right subreddit for my product?
Describe the product or the audience in a few words and the finder matches it against the 211 subreddits in our data, ranked by how often AI answers cite their threads and how many verified comments we have placed there. Then read each subreddit's rules and recent threads before posting.
Which subreddits get cited by ChatGPT and Perplexity?
In 66,986 AI answers we tracked from Jan 9, 2026 to Oct 2, 2026, Reddit threads were cited 32,398 times across 2,782 subreddits; 138 of them were cited 50 or more times, with a median of 92 citations among those 104.
Is the subreddit finder free?
Yes. There is no signup and no email gate, and the matching runs on our own data, so a search costs nothing.
Why does a subreddit I know not show up?
The finder only covers subreddits AI answers cited 50 or more times or where we placed 50 or more verified comments. Health, drug, mental-health, legal-help and adult communities are left out on purpose.
Subreddit lists by niche
Where these numbers come from
AI citations count the Reddit thread links that appeared as sources in answers from OpenAI GPT models, Perplexity Sonar and Gemini Flash models to the buyer-style questions we track for our clients' brands (competitor comparisons, product discovery and problem descriptions), January 9 to October 2, 2026. Those questions come from our clients' niches, so the counts lean toward the topics our clients sell in. They measure what these engines linked, not what any person read.
Placements are comments CommunityMentions posted for clients and verified on the thread on the day they went up, from our delivery database. Client names and comment text are never published. Brand counts under 5 are not shown.
Any count under 50 is shown as "under 50". Thread titles come from the link text, so a long title may be cut short. Subreddit sizes are from our last check. Health, drug, mental-health, legal-help and adult communities are not included. The finder's word matching is described above.
Published by CommunityMentions (about us), run by Ryan Doyle. Rules for each subreddit belong to its moderators: read them before you post.
