How to use this list
A subreddit that AI answers cite often is a place where a comment can end up quoted in an answer, which is why the list leads with citations. A subreddit with many of our verified comments and few citations is one where we have a long record but the engines we tracked rarely linked it. Check each subreddit's own rules before you post, and read our guide to Reddit for AI search for how comments reach answers.
Frequently asked questions
Which subreddits do AI answers cite most for car and auto topics?
In our tracking (Jan 9, 2026 to Oct 2, 2026), the most-cited car and auto subreddit was r/askcarsales with 295 citations, followed by r/whatcarshouldIbuy (187) and r/AutoTransport (166).
How was this list of car and auto subreddits built?
From CommunityMentions' delivery database and AI-answer tracking: a subreddit is listed when AI answers cited it 50 or more times or we placed 50 or more verified comments there. Counts under 50 show as "under 50".

Where these numbers come from
AI citations count the Reddit thread links that appeared as sources in answers from OpenAI GPT models, Perplexity Sonar and Gemini Flash models to the buyer-style questions we track for our clients' brands (competitor comparisons, product discovery and problem descriptions), January 9 to October 2, 2026. Those questions come from our clients' niches, so the counts lean toward the topics our clients sell in. They measure what these engines linked, not what any person read.
Placements are comments CommunityMentions posted for clients and verified on the thread on the day they went up, from our delivery database. Client names and comment text are never published. Brand counts under 5 are not shown.
Any count under 50 is shown as "under 50". Thread titles come from the link text, so a long title may be cut short. Subreddit sizes are from our last check. Health, drug, mental-health, legal-help and adult communities are not included.
Published by CommunityMentions (about us), run by Ryan Doyle. Rules for each subreddit belong to its moderators: read them before you post.
