CommunityMentions
Guide
Updated September 2026By Ryan Doyle, founder of CommunityMentions

Is Reddit marketing worth it?

Yes, if your buyers ask Reddit for recommendations in your category and you can check the work comment by comment. In the 30 days to September 28, 2026, the median CommunityMentions client got 69 verified placements across five channels, 27 of them on Reddit: $18.70 each at $1,290 a month. It's rarely worth it when nobody on Reddit discusses what you sell.

What you get for the money

We sell Reddit marketing, so this is a vendor's answer. Every number below comes from our own delivery database or from Google Search Console, with its date, so you can hold us to it. In the 30 days from August 30 to September 28, 2026, 65 client brands had at least one verified placement. The median brand got 69 across Reddit, YouTube, Medium, LinkedIn and X, 27 of them on Reddit. The count includes brands that started or paused partway through the window, so a brand that ran the whole month usually got more. A placement counts once it passes our check; on Reddit, that check runs the afternoon the comment is posted.

What it did for Google search and AI answers

The clearest before-and-after we can show is our own agency, Sales.co, where we've run CommunityMentions since November 2025. Its Google impressions went from 12,544 in November 2025 to a 60,026 peak in April 2026 and held near 50,000 in May and June (Search Console, read August 6, 2026). In our monthly scan of 58 cold email buyer questions, the share of AI answers citing any reddit.com thread, including threads we never posted in, went from 0% in January to 47% in August. Sales.co ran other SEO work in the same months, so treat this as one brand's record, not a controlled test. On our case-study page, seven clients' branded Google clicks rose between 21% and 298% from the 8 weeks before their first placement to the latest 8 weeks (Search Console, as of August 21, 2026), and clicks from searches for "[brand] reddit" went from 112 to 229 across the portfolio in the same windows. Not every client moves like that: of the clients with a clean before and after, half grew branded search and two thirds grew total search traffic (same page), and brand search also moves with launches, press and ads.

Why a comment keeps working after it's posted

A Reddit comment that stays up doesn't switch off when a budget runs out, the way an ad does. The thread stays up, Google can keep ranking it for the question in its title, and AI engines quote it. In our study of 41,592 buyer-intent AI queries run between January 9 and July 14, 2026, reddit.com was the most-cited domain: it appeared in 6,202 of 32,745 answers that cited sources (18.9%), and in 29.6% of ChatGPT's sourced answers. That's the case for paying: one comment in a thread where people ask "what should I use for X?" can keep reaching buyers long after it's posted, while an ad reaches them only while you pay for it. We pick threads where someone is asking for a recommendation or help with the problem your product solves, because those are the threads buyers read and AI answers draw on.

When it isn't worth it

  • Nobody on Reddit talks about your category. Search Reddit for the questions your buyers ask. If the last year holds only a handful of threads, placements have nowhere to go.
  • You need leads this week. Comments start going up in the first days, but the before-and-after numbers above were read after 8 weeks.
  • Your product can't take scrutiny. Redditors reply, check claims and read post histories. A comment puts you in the conversation; it can't make a weak product review well.
  • You want every word written by a person. Our comments are AI-drafted, and you approve the voice and filters in Slack before anything posts. If that matters to you, pick a vendor whose staff write each comment.

The risks, and how we handle them

Moderators remove some comments, ours included, usually a human moderator enforcing a subreddit's rules on promotion. We check every Reddit comment the afternoon it's posted and re-check it nightly for about a week, and that removal history steers the next placements away from subreddits that remove them. The daily Slack report links every comment that passed the same-day check and counts the ones removed before it. Removals found in later re-checks steer targeting and aren't in the client report. The other risks are an account getting banned, a subreddit changing its rules, or a thread turning on a brand that pushed too hard. Real people with established accounts post our comments, with no bots, and each comment answers the question first and names the product as one option. Whoever you hire, ask for a link to every comment. A monthly summary you can't click through isn't something you can check.

Doing it yourself instead

Doing it yourself costs time instead of money. We estimate 30 to 60 minutes a day to find new threads, write replies that answer first, and see which ones moderators removed. It works when someone on your team already knows the subreddits and has an account with a real history. Our Reddit marketing strategy playbook is the process we run, step by step. If you'd rather pay someone, the Reddit marketing cost guide compares what agencies, per-mention sellers and tools charge, with prices checked on September 29, 2026.

Frequently asked questions

Is Reddit marketing worth it for B2B companies?

It can be when your buyers discuss tools on Reddit. For 22 B2B software brands, 88% of the 8,047 Reddit comments we verified between January 28 and September 28, 2026 landed in topic subreddits such as r/AI_Agents and r/LocalLLM, and 5.7% in founder and startup subreddits like r/SaaS. Check whether your buyers ask questions in subreddits like those before paying anyone.

How long does Reddit marketing take to work?

Comments start going up in the first week. Judge search results after about 8 weeks: the before-and-after numbers on our case-study page compare the 8 weeks before a client's first placement with the latest 8 weeks.

How much does Reddit marketing cost?

It depends on the model: per-mention sellers, monthly services and agency retainers price very differently. Our cost guide compares published prices checked on September 29, 2026. CommunityMentions costs $1,290 a month, month-to-month, after a $1 setup charge.

Can I see what I'd get before paying?

Yes. The sample is free: paste your site and see the comments we'd post, the first ones in about 2 minutes and the full report in about 10, with no card. Starting costs $1, and the $1,290 monthly billing starts only after you approve the setup in Slack.
